Review: Fun.com’s DC Comics blazer and pencil skirt

A few years ago, it was difficult to find many options in the realm of geeky office wear. That area of geek fashion has since grown and even though office wear is still in need of attention in the industry, we’re seeing more and more items released these days that geeks can wear to work. One release I was excited to see recently was Fun.com expanding their Fun Suits to include women. While some of their suits for men may not exactly be subtle, these certainly are and can work in and out of the office for professional geeks.

Fun.com released the exclusive officially licensed DC Comics suits for women at the end of January. The line includes trousers, two blazers, and a pencil skirt. In particular I was curious about the vintage print one-button blazer and vintage print pencil skirt (disclosure: blazer and skirt were provided by Fun.com for review) which seemed like they’d work well paired together as well as separately. The DC Comics touch is featured just in the colorful lining of both the skirt and blazer where you’ll find Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn in a repeating pattern.

Since the geeky aspect is in the lining, these items fall more on the subtle side in office wear. You’ll know you’re carrying these superheroes around with you, but it’s possible no one else will. Sometimes the lining can be caught in the skirt depending on how you walk and sit, and with the blazer the lining can be more visible depending on your style. With the one-button buttoned, the lining obviously can’t be seen. However, if you leave the blazer unbuttoned glimpses of the inside just might catch someone’s attention. For me, I liked the idea of rolling up the sleeves slightly to form colorful cuffs to add just the right amount of color and geekiness to the otherwise professional black blazer. It’s really up to you how much you want to reveal the inside or if you prefer being the only one knowing you have this geeky aspect with you at work.

When it comes to fit, the skirt has a zipper and a slit on the center seam in the back, and fell to right below my knees. The sizing was just what I expected. I checked the size chart and it all seemed to match with my usual size for skirts and jeans, so I went with the same size and it fits really well.

I had a slightly different experience with the blazer. The blazer has the one button in the front and three buttons on the cuffs as well as a notched collar, and faux pockets in front. Checking the size chart, I went with a size that I seemed to match with, but it’s actually a little larger than I expected. It’s not hugely noticeable, but it runs slightly large enough in the fit that cuffing the sleeves is also just more comfortable and I might not button the front as often as I would have otherwise. I’d recommend definitely double checking measurements for the blazer and perhaps even considering going a size smaller than you usually would if you’re not sure about fit.

I was pleasantly surprised when wearing both pieces with how light they felt. Both items are made of about 80% polyester and 20% rayon. They’re comfortable and definitely made me feel that I wouldn’t be weighed down or annoyed by the blazer if I was running around the office or working at a convention. I can definitely see wearing these items together or separately in the future, especially when I’m at conventions and need to move from hosting a panel or writing an article one minute to more casually stopping by a meet up or just walking the exhibit hall the next.

If you’re looking for an option in geeky office wear, it’s worth checking out these Fun Suits. For those that want their geekiness a little more visible, I’d recommend the blazers which offer an easier way to show the lining. Currently the Fun Suits range is on sale at Fun.com. You can purchase the skirt for $24.99 and the blazer for $39.99.
