6 empowering geeky gift ideas for women

Written by Wendy Lee Szany:

2018 has been a year of female empowerment. Women standing up for themselves and speaking up. For this holiday season, I want to showcase some of my favorite “girl boss” creators and products for all the ladies who slayed this year. Treat yourself or a fellow girl boss to some of these products below!

It's Your Universe by Ashley Eckstein

This year actress and founder of Her Universe Ashley Eckstein added author to her resume and ever growing list of accomplishments. She penned the book It’s Your Universe, an inspirational guide about following your dream. Combining her love of Disney and gorgeous artwork by artist Ashley Taylor, the book uses beloved Disney characters and stories as examples of “if you can dream it, you can do it.” Eckstein also included her own personal stories of success and failure, and how she came to lend her voice to the now iconic Star Wars heroine Ahsoka Tano.

I'm a big fan of Ashley and admire all of the work she's done for the geek fashion community. Even though the book is targeted to younger readers, I feel anyone of any age can be inspired by this book.

Overwatch Mercy cocoon sweater

Her Universe has been at the forefront of the geek fashion market, collaborating with brands such as Disney, Marvel, DC, and Star Wars. Recently, Her Universe ventured into gaming and released a Tomb Raider collection followed by a World of Warcraft line.

The latest video game collaboration is with Overwatch and this cozy cocoon sweater is perfect for the winter. Mercy's avatar design is embroidered on the chest and it's just subtle enough to give a nod to the franchise.

Magical Midi Wrap Dress

As one of my favorite geek fashion designers, Elhoffer Design has been slaying this year with sweaters, capes, dresses, and more. The ever-popular wrap dress got a slight makeover this year as Elhoffer released the midi wrap dress. Similar to the floor-length wrap dress released in the past, this new version hits just below the knee. It still has all the functions you know and love, two regular pockets, and one wand pocket (because, why not?)

The Magical Midi Wrap Dress comes in four colors: red/black, blue/black, gold/black, and green/black. Which one will you choose?

Wonder Woman denim jacket

In 2017, Patty Jenkins gave us Wonder Woman and Gal Gadot was flawless as Diana Prince. Already an icon for female empowerment, being able to see Wonder Woman on the big screen meant a lot to many of us. Hero Within released the Wonder Woman denim jacket shortly after the film's premiere. Initially released as a men's design, it became so popular that it was soon released for women. The ladies version is more fitted and includes four interior pockets as well as the iconic Wonder Woman logo subtly worked into the stitching.

Hero Within's sophisticated design integrates geekdom and fashion seamlessly and each of their pieces is perfect for school or work if you prefer to not wear a logo or graphic tee.

Wizardry and Witchcraft Makeup palette

I fell in love with Storybook Cosmetics when they released the wizard wand brushes. I quickly purchased a set and have been a fan ever since. I love the idea of combining geekdom and makeup and it's no wonder that their coveted Wizardry and Witchcraft eyeshadow palette has landed at Ulta. That's right, you can shop several Storybook Cosmetics products at your local Ulta. The quality of the shadows is the same as when it was first released on the Storybook Cosmetics website – highly pigmented and buttery texture.

Hat's off to Mandy, Erin, and Missy. It goes to show that hard work and believing in your dreams really does pay off.

Hogsmeade “You Aren't Here” Mug

The Adventure Effect is run by Sara and Neil. Both are cosplayers and have taken their love of cosplay and Disneybound and turned it into a business. You can find various tees, leggings, and more in The Adventure Effect's Etsy shop.

These Hogsmeade mugs are perfect for your daily cup of coffee on those chilly winter mornings. I love the cleverness of these designs as it parodies the "You Are Here" mugs that have become quite popular.
